Questions for unpublished writers
I frequently receive inquiries from unpublished writers wondering if I can help them get published. My first concern is to ask the Lord if I should take this particular project (the same goes for published writers)> Then, if so, how exactly to know and meet the person's needs. I try first to understand the best way to help a writer meet his goal. Then I can best provide whatever editing and writing assistance is necessary.
But much depends upon the writer's faithfulness and determination. Here are some suggestions to consider. I'd appreciate hearing your own tips.
1. What are you doing to stay faithful to writing?
2. Is there a method of discipline that helps you most?
3. What life situations make it difficult for you to write?
4. What is the biggest obstacle you encounter?
5. How do you overcome "I can't do it!"?
6. Are you studying writing?
7. Are you studying the market?
"You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised" (Hebrews 10:36, NIV).
